West Ham United make Alexander Sorloth bid as Villareal respond already

West Ham United have had a £25.2million bid rejected for Villareal striker Alexander Sorloth within hours, according to Corriere Dello Sport.

The newspaper reported via its print edition on 17 July that following recent speculation around the Norway international, the Hammers have made the first move.

It is shared that Roma were interested in bringing Sorloth to the Italian capital but now believe they’ll need a “miracle” after the Hammers’ bid was rejected.

West Ham United to seal Alexander Sorloth transfer?

Villareal star Sorloth would be an unbelievable acquisition for West Ham this summer.

Julen Lopetegui’s side needs upgrades across the board this season if they wish to improve their ninth-place finish from last term.

With the poor form of Danny Ings and the prospect of Michail Antonio exiting the London Stadium [GZH, 28 June] this summer, a number nine should be on top of the priority list for the club.

And, with the club’s recent links with players such as Steven Bergwijn and Matias Soule [Giovanni Albanese, 16 July] it’s evident that Lopetegui sees this himself.

Both Sebastian Haller and Gianluca Scamacca were brought in for prior seasons and both failed to hit the ground running.

Last season, Sorloth managed a total of 32 goal contributions across all competitions which not only shows his prowess in front of goal but also his strength in assisting teammates.

Although the Hammers may feel cursed when it comes to number nines, it’s hard to see how a move for the Norway international could go south.
