West Ham United made late hijack attempt for £15m Serhou Guirassy transfer

West Ham United made a late attempt to hijack Serhou Guirassy’s transfer to Borussia Dortmund, according to TBR Football.

Writing on their website (19 July), the news outlet report that the Hammers held a long-standing interest in the Bundesliga star and made a late attempt to bring him to the London Stadium amid delays over a move to Dortmund due to a knee injury discovered in his medical.

West Ham held talks with his representatives at that point, but at that point Dortmund found out about the rival interest and closed the £15m deal for the Guinea international.

West Ham still in need of a new striker

With Michail Antonio being wanted by Saudi and MLS clubs [Athletic, 15 May], and Danny Ings not likely to be at the club next season, a new striker is a necessity.

There have been reports that Jhon Duran is close to a £37million move to West Ham from Aston Villa, but it’s very possible that Tim Steidten wanted to try his luck with a more budget-friendly signing after his goal record in the Bundesliga last season.

Guirassy is someone who has been linked to east London since David Moyes was manager, but it never materialised and his move to Dortmund could now open the door for another transfer to happen.

Karim Adeyemi’s agents have reportedly held talks about a move to the London Stadium [HITC, 16 July], and he has been told he is free to leave the Signal Iduna Park.

A new attacker is more than necessary at this point so a move for Guirassy when the terms were clear for everyone makes sense, but it didn’t work out this time, and that’s the risk you run by waiting too long.

In other West Ham news, a player has agreed personal terms with another club despite a bid being accepted from the Hammers.
