West Ham United: Lyon to launch FIFA appeal after failed Said Benrahma transfer – Fabrizio Romano
Ligue 1 club Lyon will appeal to FIFA after their transfer for West Ham United winger Said Benrahma was not completed.
That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who reported via X on Thursday (1 February) that Lyon and the player signed all the documents. It is understood that the Hammers didn’t submit details to the FIFA TMS (Transfer Matching System) properly.
Romano added that the French outfit are now asking for an explanation from the Hammers as to what went wrong with the deal.
Messy
This really is a messy situation involving Benrahma, who looked certain to leave the London Stadium in the recent transfer window. But the window has now closed, and it looks like the winger will be staying in East London for the time being.
There should not, however, be panic, even though there is clear frustration, with the Algerian likely to leave the club at the end of the season, which isn’t too far away.
But he will still be disappointed not to have got a move that could have reignited his career, with the forward struggling on the pitch at this moment in time.
Benrahma certainly hasn’t looked like the player he once was, from both his early West Ham stages and his time at Brentford.
There should, however, still be hope from David Moyes and Hammers supporters that the winger can play a key role for the club in both the Premier League and Europa League in the coming months.
In other West Ham news, a Hammers exit deal broke down after an offer was made, with a manager rejection detailed.
