West Ham United lurking to sign Everton ace Dominic Calvert-Lewin amid £40m update
West Ham are still “lurking” in the transfer hunt for Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, according to Alex Crook.
News outlet Football Transfers reported that the Hammers view the England striker as the “ideal candidate” for new manager Julen Lopetegui (22 June).
talkSPORT’s chief football correspondent Alex Crook revealed that Everton are looking for a fee in the region of £40million if they are to cash in on Calvert-Lewin, who has also been linked to Newcastle United.
“There’s a few clubs interested in him,” said Crook. “Obviously earlier this week it looked like it was advancing with Newcastle.
“Officially they’ve now withdrawn from the race however, [this] could be a tactic to bring the asking price down.
“Everton looking for £40million to sell Calvert-Lewin [in summer].
“West Ham are lurking for him and maybe a change of scenery could be a positive step for him.”
Why West Ham want to sign a striker this summer
West Ham have traditionally struggled with striker signings in the past and it appears clear that Lopetegui is keen to reinforce his forward line this summer.
Michail Antonio is reaching the twilight of his career and endured issues with form and fitness during the 2023/24 campaign, while Danny Ings appears surplus to requirements.
Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus – both of whom prefer playing a bit deeper – were relied upon to lead the line last season.
The addition of Calvert-Lewin, who is about to enter the last year of his Everton contract, would provide the Hammers with a better focal point up top.

The likes of Tammy Abraham [Daily Mail, 14 June] and Callum Wilson have also been mooted with a move to Goodison Park and it remains to be seen if they will pursue their interest in Calvert-Lewin.
Either way, Hammers fans can probably start getting excited over the prospect of a new striker arriving at the London Stadium this off-season.
