West Ham United learn Real Betis stance on Guido Rodriguez transfer

Real Betis will not spend money to bring Guido Rodriguez back from West Ham United after he left the club on a free transfer in the summer, according to Info Real Betis.

The Spanish outlet reported via their website (20 November) that in order for a move to even happen in the first place they’d have to sell USA international Johnny Cardoso.

Rodriguez would also “offer himself” to make a return to La Liga and has “never closed the door” on a potential return, the report adds.

West Ham United need to cut their losses with Guido Rodriguez

Since his arrival in the summer, the Argentina international has failed to have much of an impact on Julen Lopetegui’s team.

One of the key reasons behind this is due to how slow and robust the 30-year-old is which, for a league as intensive as the Premier League, isn’t ideal.

Many fans and pundits alike have slammed his contributions this term with Edson Alvarez and Tomas Soucek both often getting the nod over the 2022 World Cup winner.

The midfielder has only just recently made the switch to the London Stadium but the fact that they got him on a free transfer sort of plays in the Hammers’ favour.

As no fee was involved in the move, only the signing bonus that was paid by the Hammers would need to be covered in a permanent move or better yet, they could send him out on loan for the second half of the season and get most if not all of his wages off their bill [AS, 19 November].

A move seems to make the most sense for both parties but only time will tell what Tim Steidten and Lopetegui choose to do.

In other West Ham news, a “power battle” has been mooted at the London Stadium between Tim Steidten and Julen Lopetegui after their performances this season.
