West Ham United lead race to sign Jack Clarke, Sunderland transfer decision due
West Ham and Bournemouth are leading the race to sign Sunderland sensation Jack Clarke this summer, according to The Daily Mirror.
The national newspaper reported [9 May, page 61] that multiple Premier League clubs are interested, with the Hammers one of the keenest, though Clarke’s final decision hinges on Sunderland’s new manager appointment.
Michael Beale was sacked after just 12 matches in charge following a poor run of results, with Mike Dodds currently in place as a caretaker manager while the Black Cats search for a replacement.
Will West Ham United sign Sunderland’s Jack Clarke this summer?
The 23-year-old English forward has experienced a scintillating season at the Stadium of Light, notching 15 goals and four assists in the Championship, which has seen him gain plenty of interest.
While several top-flight clubs are said to be interested, a move to the London Stadium could be the perfect fit as Julen Lopetegui marks a new era at the club.
David Moyes is set to part ways with the Hammers this summer upon the expiration of his contract, while other stars could leave during the summer transfer window.
Lucas Paqueta is the subject of transfer interest from Manchester City, and if that deal were to come to fruition, it would leave a major hole for Clarke to fill at an established Premier League club.

It would also allow the youngster to experience European football, and considering his form this season, West Ham might regret their decisions if they missed out on the signing.
Of course, Clarke has only proven himself across two seasons in the Championship and the leap up to the Premier League could be a tough transition. But with 24 goals and 15 assists over two league seasons, it could be a risk worth taking.
