West Ham United keen to secure Wes Foderingham transfer as Sheffield United contract update emerges
West Ham United are interested in signing Wes Foderingham following his release from Sheffield United, according to Alan Nixon.
The Sun journalist reported via his Patreon page (21 May) that the Hammers are keen to throw the experienced keeper a “lifeline” to remain in the Premier League to provide cover between the goalposts.
Foderingham was told that he could leave Brammal Lane in the January transfer window but decided to remain with the Blades, but has been released following the expiry of his contract and relegation from the top flight.
Will West Ham United sign Sheffield United keeper Wes Foderingham?
West Ham do have two very good keepers already at the London Stadium, with both Alphonse Areola and Lukasz Fabianski impressing when they have been called upon over the course of the season both domestically and in Europe.
Whether or not the Hammers will be able to keep both stoppers in East London over the summer remains to be seen and although there hasn’t been much speculation around their futures, they will certainly garner some interest.
Foderingham may not be at the level required to come in and immediately push Areola out of his number-one position, but he is an experienced keeper at 33 years old and he would provide some incredibly steady cover.

With no transfer fee needed to secure his signature, the Irons could well have a free run at signing the former Blades man as it remains to be seen whether any other Premier League sides want to enter the race.
Hopefully, this deal can be completed without a hitch and the first addition of the Julen Lopetegui era will be made before the former Real Madrid man is even announced as David Moyes’ successor.
