West Ham United jet out on transfer mission for Christian Eriksen and Joakim Maehle

West Ham sent scouts to Austria on Monday (6 June) to watch Denmark duo Christian Eriksen and Joakim Maehle play in the Nations League, according to the Daily Star.

The newspaper reported via their website on 7 June that West Ham’s recruitment experts were in Vienna to watch over 30-year-old Eriksen, whose contract at Brentford is expiring this summer, and Atalanta wing-back Maehle, 25, as Denmark won 2-1.

It is understood that the Irons are one of a number of clubs readying a bid for Eriksen “but sources close to the former Spurs star insist he could still choose to stay at Brentford”.

The Star adds that the Hammers are also keen on Maehle, who can play on both the left or right flank as a full-back, wing-back or winger.

Double Danish swoop?

We’ve tried raiding the Czech Republic for all the talent they have – so why not Denmark?

Denmark are on the rise as a footballing nation and have some seriously good players in their squad.

Eriksen is obviously a class act and any club in the world would be lucky to have the former Tottenham, Ajax and Inter Milan playmaker join them this summer.

We’d love for David Moyes to sign the midfield ace despite his ties to North London.

A move for Maehle would also be interesting.

He’s had a great few years at Atalanta and has been ever-present in their rise to prominence in Italian football.

According to transfermarkt, Maelhe played mainly in the left wing-back position for Atalanta in the 2021/22 season but he played a lot on the right too.

West Ham could do with depth on either side and Maehle would provide that.

In other West Ham news, a deal is on the cards to sign a forward who Moyes once compared to Wayne Rooney.
