Liverpool and Newcastle United ‘on alert’ for Jarrod Bowen as West Ham United contract situation shared

Liverpool and Newcastle United are “on alert” as contract talks between West Ham and Jarrod Bowen are still moving slowly, according to talkSPORT.

Bowen has been in superb form for the Hammers this season, scoring five goals and assisting another in seven Premier League appearances.

The England international is under contract at London Stadium until June 2025, but the Hammers are eager to tie him down to fresh terms beyond then.

However, in an update provided on Thursday [5 October], Alex Crook said: “Jarrod Bowen has put Liverpool and Newcastle on alert as negotiations over a new contract at West Ham continue to move slowly.

“The Hammers are hopeful fans’ favourite Bowen, match-winner in last season’s Europa Conference League final, will commit his future to the east London club.

“But Bowen’s advisers are aware the England international is on Liverpool’s list of potential replacements for Saudi Arabia-linked Mohamed Salah.

“Newcastle boss Eddie Howe is also a long-term admirer of the former Hull City star, who has enjoyed a fine start to the new campaign with five goals and one assist in seven Premier League games.”

Worrying news

Bowen was linked with Newcastle prior to the summer transfer window opening, while links with fellow top-flight heavyweights Liverpool only emerged once the window closed.

Given Bowen only has one full season left on his contract after 2023-24, and talks over extending his stay do not appear to be advancing, West Ham could have an unwanted decision to make next summer – or even in January.

The 26-year-old is a massive fan favourite at West Ham, not least because he will forever be remembered as the match-winner in the club’s Europa Conference League final triumph.

Bowen is only getting better, too, as reflected by the fact he has been nominated for the Premier League’s Player of the Month award for both August and September.

That type of form does not go unnoticed, and rather worryingly for West Ham, it does not look as though this interest from Liverpool in particular is going to go away.

The ideal scenario would be Bowen putting pen to paper on a new deal in the next two months, or else a rival club may well come in with a concrete offer in the January window.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers are on the verge of setting a new record as they prepare to face Freiburg.
