West Ham United stance shared as Nottingham Forest make late January transfer window approach for Maxwel Cornet

Nottingham Forest have now made an approach to West Ham over a loan deal for Maxwel Cornet, according to Dharmesh Sheth.

The Sky Sports reporter added via the broadcaster’s live transfer blog [30 January, 09:23] that West Ham will consider any suitable offers.

Cornet is under contract at London Stadium until 2027, but United have the option to extend that by a further 12 months should they wish.

Forest, owned by billionaire Evangelos Marinakis, have until 11pm on Thursday (1 February) to complete a deal.

Tough one

Cornet’s West Ham career has never taken off since joining from Burnley in August 2022 and it makes sense to cash in if possible.

Given United paid £17.5million to sign Cornet, they will want to recoup as much of that money as possible.

However, Forest only appear interested in a loan deal for now and that could leave West Ham with a tough decision to make.

If that is the case, it would at least put the Ivorian in the shop window ahead of a permanent departure in the summer.

West Ham

At the same time, it would mean David Moyes losing an attacking option for the next four months, even if Cornet barely features.

This deal may well come down to whether the Irons can first bring in another attacker, with former Celtic ace Jota high on their list of priorities.

If it is a case of Jota in and Cornet out, that would be an upgrade every United fan would welcome.

In other West Ham news, the Irons’ attempt to bring in a player from abroad has reportedly hit an unexpected snag.
