West Ham United in talks with representatives of Diego Gomez amid £15m+ Inter Miami update
West Ham United have opened talks to sign Inter Miami midfielder Diego Gomez this summer, according to the Sunday People.
On page 64 of their print edition [21 July], Ryan Taylor reports that Gomez could be set for his dream Premier League switch after representing his nation Paraguay at the Olympic Games.
Inter Miami will only consider offers above £15m for the 21-year-old, who has impressed since arriving from previous club Libertad and is also said to be tracked by Brighton & Hove Albion.
Despite strong interest from West Ham, the club have not yet launched a formal offer to David Beckham’s MLS outfit for Gomez [Ben Jacobs, 20 July].
Gomez wants “dream” West Ham move
The report understands that Gomez’s “dream” is to play in the Premier League and the midfielder is eager to cooperate with talks to push through a move.
It could play out to be an intriguing transfer battle between the Irons and Brighton, who have been equally ambitious in recent years with their self-sustaining transfer model bearing fruit.
Following six goal contributions in 15 games as a teammate of Lionel Messi in Florida – plus a CONMEBOL Pre-Olympic Golden Boot – Gomez has adapted to life outside of his homeland well and has now attracted attention not just from the Premier League, but in wider Europe with an Italian club said to have enquired [Bruno Pont, 15 July].

Julen Lopetegui will want players with whom he can strike up a long-term project, and Gomez’s age profile and keenness to play in claret and blue will help forge that type of relationship.
Firstly for the seven-cap Paraguayan, however, is the upcoming Olympics in nearby Paris and a chance to not only scoop his nation a medal, but also put himself clearer into the shop window.
In other West Ham news, a former winger has taken on a new role at the club.
