West Ham United in talks with PSG to sign Carlos Soler before transfer deadline – Sky Sports

West Ham are in talks with Paris Saint-Germain over a deal to sign Carlos Soler before the deadline, according to Dharmesh Sheth.

In an update on the Sky Sports website on 19 August (12.02pm) he reported that the Ligue 1 giants are open to selling the Spanish midfielder, who has three years left on his contract.

Negotiations are in progress after Soler was an unused substitute for PSG’s opening league game of the season against Le Havre.

The Irons were beaten 2-1 by Aston Villa in Julen Lopetegui’s first game as boss on Saturday 17 August.

Tim Steidten to top off West Ham transfer window?

The loss in the opener served to dampen expectations slightly after an extremely impressive transfer window from Tim Steidten.

As it was Lopetegui opted to leave all of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Jean-Clair Todibo, Niclas Fullkrug and Crysencio Summerville on the bench, with all having arrived late in the window.

He likely won’t continue to do so for long if the old guard underperform, but it looks like there could be yet more reinforcements yet.

If Soler does arrive it is surely likely to mean in-demand Scottish midfielder Andy Irving is allowed to depart after offers from Atalanta and Espanyol [Edinburgh Evening News, 16 August].

It would also raise further questions over James Ward-Prowse just a year after arriving from Southampton, with the Englishman thought not to be a natural fit for Lopetegui’s style [GiveMeSport, 6 June].

Soler could replace the goalscoring of David Moyes favourite Tomas Soucek, with the Czech another who may not be long for the new era [GiveMeSport, 14 August].

The PSG man scored 22 La Liga goals across his final two campaigns with Valencia, although he has netted just five times in Ligue 1 from fewer opportunities since.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers are ready to table a new bid for another striker which will be accepted when put in writing.
