West Ham United in talks to sell Aaron Cresswell to Wolves amid £5m transfer
West Ham are in talks about selling Aaron Cresswell to Wolves in a £5m deal with the player keen on the move, according to The Athletic.
Writing on their website (19 July), the two Premier League clubs are in talks over a deal that would see Cresswell sign a longer contract than he currently has at the London Stadium, with his deal set to expire in 2024.
Wolves and West Ham did business back in January with a deal that saw Craig Dawson move up north, and now the Hammers could sell another player to their rivals as they look to bolster their squad ahead of the new season.
“Wolves in talks to sign West Ham United defender Aaron Cresswell,” Roshane Thomas wrote on his personal Twitter account (19 July).
“Fee in the region of £5m. Cresswell is entering the final year of his deal, but is thought to be keen on the transfer.”
Bolster
Cresswell’s performances over the last two years haven’t quite been what we have come to expect from him, but his sale would still be a loss.
With Mark Noble retiring last year and Declan Rice being sold this year, Cresswell is among the leaders in the changing room and is the longest-serving player at the club right now.

He had been tipped to take over as captain of the club, but his place in the starting lineup is far from guaranteed with Emerson Palmieri in the squad, and now a new arrival is likely too.
That would explain why he is keen to move on and play regularly elsewhere, but West Ham must be sure that a replacement is there to come in before he’s sold to ensure that we aren’t left short in that department.
Ultimately if we can sell him for £5m and bring in a replacement to look towards the future, it’s good business for the club and the player and everyone can be happy about his time at West Ham.
