West Ham United in 11th-hour talks to sign Ismaila Sarr before transfer deadline
West Ham have begun talks with Marseille over a late deadline-day transfer for Ismaila Sarr after they were offered the opportunity to sign the winger, according to Dean Jones.
The former Express journalist reported that negotiations are currently underway over the possibility of getting the move over the line before the transfer deadline at 11pm.
He did, however, warn not to get too carried away as the Hammers have attempted six deals of this type already this window without landing a new winger.
Speaking to Give Me Sport [1 February], Jones shared: “So they’ve been offered the opportunity to sign Sarr and early negotiations are now taking place over the possibility of that happening.
“I mean, we probably shouldn’t get too carried away because this is the sixth deal of this type that West Ham have tried to do across this month. They’ve looked at various options”
Get a move on
With just hours to go until the transfer window slams shut, it may be too little too late for the Hammers in their attempt to sign a new winger in January, despite one being on their list of priorities at the start of the month.
The need for a winger was made even more clear in the 1-1 draw with Bournemouth at the London Stadium, where some dynamism out wide could have made the difference in a game the Hammers were ultimately lucky to take a point from.

With Said Benrahma still expected to leave, David Moyes’ team could be strapped for options in that area, and although Lucas Paqueta, Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen are the preferred three, some extra quality would be a welcome boost.
If they can get the Sarr deal over the line before 11pm, it would be an excellent move at a time when they probably need it most, but Jones’ warning to not hold your breath seems more likely to ring true.
In other West Ham news, Moyes and Steidten were spotted in conversation before the game.
