West Ham United have ‘tested the ground’ for Sofyan Amrabat, midfielder prefers move to league champions

West Ham have “tested the ground” with Fiorentina about a move for midfielder Sofyan Amrabat amid links to Napoli this summer, according to TuttoMercato.

The Italian news outlet reported on 19 July that the Serie A champions have expressed an interest in the Moroccan international, while Manchester United also remain interested in him.

Tutto claims that while the Hammers have “tested the ground” with Fiorentina for the 26-year-old, who Goal reported was valued at £34million, he apparently “does not like the possible destination very much”.

Unlikely

It seems extremely unlikely that the Hammers are going to be able to pull this one off, given the interest around Amrabat since his superb performances at the World Cup, where he helped Morocco reach the semi-finals of the competition.

With Manchester United and Serie A champions Napoli interested, he’s going to be desperate to play in the Champions League next season, with more chance of fighting for a league title also a likely factor.

There’s no doubt that he will have impressed West Ham during his display against the club in the Europa Conference League final, with his side being narrowly beaten by that late Jarrod Bowen goal.

The Tutto report suggests Fiorentina would accept a bid for the midfielder in the region of £21.7million, which would be an absolute steal for a player in his prime years that seems to only be getting better.

The chances of seeing him in a claret and blue shirt next season don’t appear to be too favourable, but there is absolutely no harm in tabling a bid for him at such a low price, as he would be an ideal replacement for Declan Rice.
