Fulham and Leeds United want to sign Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips, who's on loan at West Ham, according to Football Transfers.

The news outlet reported on 6 April that the Cottagers will be looking to replace Joao Palhinha should he leave the London outfit in the summer.

He is understood to be in demand among the top European clubs and Phillips has been earmarked as his replacement.

West Ham unlikely to sign Phillips permanently

The Hammers' decision to sign Phillips on loan from Manchester City was rooted in the belief that the midfielder was underutilised at his parent club and could bolster their squad.

However, the reality has been disappointing, as Phillips has struggled to perform consistently and has made numerous errors on the field.

His inability to match the standards expected, coupled with his erratic performances, has led to him being benched by David Moyes.

Moreover, Phillips falls significantly short of the quality provided by Palhinha, whom Fulham seeks to replace.

While Fulham eye Phillips as a potential replacement for Palhinha, based on his current form and performance level, signing him could be deemed a mistake.

The Irons' experience with Phillips highlights the risk associated with such signings, emphasising the importance of thorough scouting and evaluation before securing players on loan and it's unlikely he's signed permanently in the summer.
