West Ham United: Fulham trying to hijack Said Benrahma transfer to Lyon on Deadline Day
Fulham are trying to hijack Said Benrahma’s deadline day transfer from West Ham to Lyon despite a medical already being booked, according to Santi Aouna.
Writing on his personal Twitter account (1 February), the reliable journalist reports that the Cottagers are “pushing hard” for a move to sign the Algeria international despite Lyon agreeing a loan-to-buy deal worth £15m.
Benrahma was set to travel to France for a medical on Thursday morning but has reservations about the deal, and Fulham are now trying to pounce by keeping him in London instead.
Wow
Well that would be a shock, and it wouldn’t be ideal for West Ham if they ended up losing a player like Benrahma to a rival club.
Fulham are pushing to be in a similar position to West Ham in the Premier League, so strengthening a direct rival is never ideal. But if they’re going to offer more money, or even cash now rather than in the summer, it could be good business.
Benrahma clearly isn’t completely sold on the idea of moving to Lyon, with the French side in a relegation battle in Ligue 1 currently, and this may give him a way out.
With a medical already booked and flights expected soon, Fulham are really pushing against the clock to get this deal done ahead of Lyon as a deal would need to be agreed with the Hammers first.
But this is certainly one to keep an eye on considering reports that Benrahma wasn’t sure on the move to France, and this could be a deal that suits everyone except Lyon.
