West Ham United ‘first’ to Andre Silva transfer in new January update

West Ham United were the “first to step forward” to try and sign RB Leipzig striker Andre Silva in the winter transfer window, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The news outlet reports (19 January) that the 29-year-old’s arrival is “tempting” for the Hammers.

Graham Potter’s team would be interested in signing the Portuguese striker on loan before the 3 February deadline as they look to bolster their attack.

West Ham United need Andre Silva transfer

After the 2-0 loss to Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday (18 January), it has become evident that the Irons need a new number nine.

Niclas Fullkrug will be out for a considerable period after picking up another injury, with Michail Antonio also on the sidelines after his car accident.

Jarrod Bowen has been the East London club’s most potent threat up front this season, but the England international has also been unavailable in recent matches.

West Ham found it difficult to create chances against Oliver Glasner’s team, with Mohammed Kudus starting in the number nine position.

Potter also made a surprising decision to start Aaron Cresswell in a back-five, which didn’t help the Hammers’ cause in the opening 45 minutes against the Eagles.

While Danny Ings is at the English manager’s disposal, it doesn’t look like the former Southampton and Aston Villa centre-forward is trusted to lead the line.

The Irons made the right decision by sacking Julen Lopetegui, but the former Brighton boss can’t be expected to pull off miracles with the same squad that struggled in the first half of the campaign.

A new number nine looks like the need of the hour and the recruitment team at the London Stadium should definitely add reinforcements in the coming weeks.

Getting Silva on a temporary move would seemingly solve some of the issues.

In other West Ham news, Tim Steidten has been demoted as his sacking is halfway done.
