West Ham United figures ‘fly out’ as Eli Junior Kroupi update shared

West Ham United scouts flew out to watch Eli Junior Kroupi in action for Lorient in their 2-1 win at Red Star on Saturday, according to Kaveh Solhekol.

The Sky Sports reporter shared via the broadcaster’s live transfer blog [1 February, 3:05pm] that Hammers figures were in attendance to see Kroupi net his 10th goal of the campaign.

It was reported by Sky earlier on 1 February that West Ham are in talks with Lorient over a deal for Kroupi, who could set the Irons back around £33million.

Kroupi to West Ham United transfer speculation gathers pace

This is a transfer that has seemingly come out of the blue, and everything points towards a late-window deal being struck for the talented youngster.

Kroupi now has nine goals in 17 Ligue 1 matches this season, which includes five appearances from the substitutes’ bench.

That is a more-than-decent return for the 18-year-old, who has previously been mentioned as a target for Tottenham and Chelsea among others.

There is no doubt that United are in desperate need for a striker who can find the net, but this would still be quite the gamble from David Sullivan and Co.

Still, supporters will just be happy that money is being spent – and a lot of it – on someone who will get fans out of their seats.

Rather than paying big for someone whose career is on the wane, this is a change of direction and could be a gamble that massively pays off over time.

In other West Ham news, the Irons are in advanced talks to sign another young player from a British club.
