West Ham United failed to seal £15m transfer due to one reason
West Ham were set to seal a £15million move to sign Flamengo defender Fabricio Bruno in the transfer window, according to the Athletic.
The news outlet reported on 31 August that the move fell through as the wages the Hammers were willing to offer were not really that much more than what he was getting at the Brazilian club.
As the 28-year-old Brazil international was not satisfied with the contract, he decided to stay put at Flamengo.
West Ham United unlikely to regret not signing Fabricio Bruno
It’s somewhat surprising that the Hammers couldn’t match Bruno’s wage expectations, especially when European clubs often outbid South American teams in salary offers due to the financial disparities between leagues.
However, their decision not to significantly increase their wage offer might reflect a strategic financial approach or adherence to a wage structure, aiming to maintain squad harmony and financial sustainability.
Despite missing out on Bruno, signings of Kilman and Todibo could prove fortuitous.
Kilman, known for his Premier League experience with Wolves, brings a physical presence and defensive solidity, while Todibo, with his background in Ligue 1, offers versatility and potential for growth.
Both players, potentially on more manageable wages, could integrate well into the West Ham system, providing depth and quality without the financial risk of overpaying.

This scenario might not only balance the squad’s wage bill but also foster competition and development within the team, potentially leading to better long-term success.
