West Ham United face Roma transfer battle for Alexander Sorloth as bid made
West Ham United face a battle for Villarreal striker Alexander Sorloth this summer with Roma having now submitted a bid for the Norwegian, according to El Periódico Mediterráneo.
The paper reported in its printed edition on Friday (July 26, page 36) that the Serie A club have put forward a £25.3million bid for the striker who is also wanted by the Hammers.
It was reported by Corrierre dello Sport earlier this month (17 July) that the Irons had a similar bid of £25.2m rejected with the LaLiga side holding out for his £32m buy-out clause (MailOnline).
West Ham should fight for Alexander Sorloth’s services
West Ham need a new striker this summer, especially with Michail Antonio’s advancing years and Danny Ings being out of favour. And, Sorloth, who netted 26 goals for Villarreal last year, could be the perfect fit.
He might not have enjoyed the best of spells at Crystal Palace previously but having gone away and honed his craft he has the physicality and goal-scoring ability to be a shrewd signing.
Though the Hammers’ initial offer was turned down by Villarreal, they have since upped their bid [Corriere Dello Sport, July 17, printed edition].
Villarreal are holding out for his buy out, but it could be worth it. Sorloth’s impressive season in La Liga, nearly winning the Pichichi Trophy, proves he can perform in the top leagues.
Sorloth is on the radar of big clubs like Roma and Newcastle United, so the competition is stiff. But West Ham should push hard for him. At 28, he’s at his peak and could significantly boost the Hammers’ attack.

Investing in Sorloth could be the key to a successful season for the East London club who badly need a goal-scoring striker. Therefore, they should do everything they can to bring him to London.
In other West Ham news, the Hammers want to sign a £21m-rated international striker and opening bids have already been made for him.
