West Ham United: Fabrizio Romano shares Lucas Paqueta update amid Manchester City interest
Fabrizio Romano has shared an update on West Ham ace Lucas Paqueta amid rumoured interest from Manchester City.
The transfer specialist posted via his personal X account on Friday evening (12 April) that City still consider Paqueta as one of their ideal targets.
While the reigning European champions have yet to decide whether to make an approach this summer, Paqueta is available at £85million.
Romano adds that the release clause in the playmaker’s deal can already be triggered ahead of 1 July, when he can then officially move on.
Paqueta is said to be keen on joining City after holding initial talks with the club last summer.
West Ham gem Lucas Paqueta’s valuation
United would have wanted closer to £100m for Paqueta, but if there is an £85m release clause in his contract then they are pretty powerless.
Unfortunately for the Irons, everything right now is pointing towards the Brazil international moving on at the end of the campaign.
Various reports have suggested he is eager to join City, while Pep Guardiola’s men will surely revive their interest down the line.
If not for Paqueta’s betting breaches case, it may well be that he would already have been at the Etihad Stadium.
What should be said, though, is that no single player is bigger than the club. As we saw with the Declan Rice sale, the money could come in handy.
Replacing Paqueta like-for-like will not be possible, but a new world-class striker could be recruited with that £85m sum. So even if Paqueta does go, let’s stay positive.
