West Ham United: Fabrizio Romano moots movement in next few days for Armando Broja at Chelsea

There could be some movement for Armando Broja at Chelsea over the next few days after West Ham have tried to sign him, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Speaking on the Caught Offside YouTube channel on Tuesday (23 January), the Italian journalist said the Hammers have been keen on signing the Albania international for the past two years as he suggested there is a “possibility” that he could leave Stamford Bridge in the January transfer window.

He added that it’s going to be a “busy week” for the 22-year-old forward, who started for the Blues in their Carabao Cup clash against Middlesbrough on Tuesday despite the ongoing speculation surrounding his future in West London.

“Yes, I think this is a possibility,” said Romano when asked if a transfer is possible. “I think it’s going to be a busy week for Broja and for Chelsea for this deal because Chelsea understand that to keep Broja at the club, almost never playing on a regular basis, also Pochettino said in recent weeks he needs to play four, five consecutive games, maybe 75 minutes because it’s important for him to be regular on the pitch.

“At the moment, it makes no sense to continue like this. Let’s see how the conversation will go. There is historical interest from West Ham, they’ve always been keen on signing Broja for the past two years. Then Wolves could be another possibility.

“Let’s see how the conversation will be with Chelsea, but for sure from Broja there could be some movement in the next days.”

Difficult

This is a potentially difficult deal for West Ham to get over the line after they’ve been continuously linked with a move for Broja over the past few years.

The forward has seen his career stall over the past 18 months after he suffered a cruciate ligament injury last season and his opportunities have been limited during this campaign.

But the fact that he started for Chelsea against Middlesbrough last night shows that he is potentially in Mauricio Pochettino’s plans moving forward.

If the Hammers are still keen on landing a deal, though, one thing that could be in our favour is that the Blues probably still have to offload players this month to balance the books.

If they happen to receive a reasonable offer for Broja, then perhaps they could be tempted into selling and we could land ourselves a promising young player on a cut-price deal.
