West Ham United eyeing move for ‘sensational’ Liverpool defender Joe Gomez

West Ham have shown an interest in signing Liverpool defender Joe Gomez, according to The Daily Mirror.

The newspaper reported on its live transfer feed on 28 August (09:46pm) that the Hammers are joined in the race for the England international’s signature by Al-Ittihad.

It said the Saudi side are preparing to make a “serious offer” for the 26-year-old, who Jurgen Klopp referred to as “sensational”, after he has fallen down the pecking order at Anfield, with the Irons also monitoring his situation.

Money talks

If West Ham are keen to land a deal for Gomez, they could face reasonably tough competition unless they put forward a decent offer to him.

That’s because Al-Ittihad are likely to be able to put better terms on the table for the defender and, although remaining in the Premier League will surely be appealing, money talks unfortunately.

There are questions around whether it’s worth the Irons actually spending money on another right-sider player anyway, even if he can play centrally or at right-back.

Surely the priority should be to bring in another left-back as Emerson appears to have very little competition after Aaron Cresswell decided he wants to leave the club this summer.

Time will tell how we’re going to approach the final few days of the transfer window, but a move for Gomez just doesn’t seem like something that would happen.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers are tracking three strikers as they look to land a last-ditch deal.
