West Ham United eye shock move for Tim Krul after transfer setback

West Ham are considering a “surprise” move for Luton Town goalkeeper Tim Krul this summer, according to Alan Nixon.

The Sun journalist reported via his Patreon on Sunday (16 June) that the Hammers could look to strike a deal with the veteran shot-stopper once his contract at Kenilworth Road expires.

Krul is seen as a possible solution to Julen Lopetegui’s current problems in between the sticks, with transfer target Wes Foderingham yet to put pen to paper on a deal offered to him at London Stadium.

That setback has seen United move for Krul, but it is understood the 36-year-old will have other options this summer, with the potential for first-team opportunities elsewhere.

West Ham United target Tim Krul on free transfer

Given Krul’s long and illustrious career, there is no reason why the Irons should not attempt to bring the goalkeeper to the London Stadium on a free transfer this summer.

While Alphonse Areola is likely to keep his first-choice status under Lopetegui, Lukasz Fabianski is set to enter the final 12 months of his contract and will need replacing next summer.

Getting ahead of the curve could be an important step for the Hammers, and Krul is certainly not a bad backup option to bring in.

Wes Foderingham
West Ham signed Wes Foderingham.

Despite only making six appearances for the Hatters last season, he has years of experience on his CV, including almost 200 games for both Newcastle United and Norwich City, as well as 15 international caps with the Netherlands.

It is clear that Lopetegui is keen on a third goalkeeper at London Stadium, having targeted Foderingham and QPR’s Asmir Begovic already, though neither of those deals seem to be advancing.
