West Ham United eye new transfer with £17m+ bid made
West Ham have submitted an offer north of £17million to secure the services of Metz striker Georges Mikautadze, according to Alexis Bernard.
The Le 10 Sport journalist reported on 28 June that the offer for the 23-year-old was the highest one received yet by the French club.
Lens and AS Monaco have both made offers for the Georgia striker, who is currently the leading scorer at Euro 2024 with three goals.
Bernard wrote on Twitter: “West Ham draws for Mikautadze, OL arrives! West Ham sent a big offer, the highest received by Metz.”
West Ham must ensure Georges Mikautadze is not being signed off the Euro 2024 hype
The Hammers must ensure that Mikautadze is not being signed off the Euro 2024 hype and there is some reason to believe that as Alexis Bernard claimed in August 2023 that the club wanted to sign the Georgia international.
While the 23-year-old has impressed at the tournament, scoring three goals in three games, it is essential to evaluate his long-term potential and fit within the team but it’s obvious that a new striker is needed this summer.
The striker has had a mixed club career so far as he scored 14 goals in 31 appearances for Metz last season, but he has yet to prove himself consistently at the top level.
It is crucial for the Irons to consider his performances over a more extended period before making a significant investment.
Moreover, the competition for Mikautadze’s signature is fierce, with Lens and AS Monaco also making offers.
This could drive up his price, potentially leading to an inflated transfer fee and the London Stadium outfit must carefully weigh the cost against the potential benefits of signing him.
In other West Ham news, the Hammers want to secure the transfer of a player who’s set to leave Tottenham Hotspur this month.
