West Ham United expected to fail in attempt to sign Filip Kostic, Maxwel Cornet lined up instead

West Ham United are likely to fail in their attempt to sign Eintracht Frankfurt wing-back Filip Kostic according to The Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg.

It had been suggested by ExWHUemployee (via his Patreon, 31 July) that Kostic’s agent was attempting to convince the 29-year-old to move to the London Stadium.

However, it has been revealed by Steinberg on Tuesday 2 August, that the Irons are now unlikely to sign Kostic with the club eyeing a loan move for Burnley’s Maxwel Cornet.

Another saga

It wouldn’t be West Ham if a transfer saga went back and forth a number of times before a deal eventually falls by the wayside.

Kostic clearly doesn’t want to move to the London Stadium and discussions with Frankfurt are seemingly not getting anywhere.

It would probably be wise for West Ham to take a step back from a move for Kostic and instead focus on their other left-back targets.

Cornet would be a good addition at the London Stadium with the versatile wing-back able to play a number of positions.

However, both players are certainly not out and out left-backs and their defensive capabilities are certainly up for some debate.

It would not be a surprise to see Moyes target a more defensive-minded left-back as the season approaches to provide Aaron Cresswell with some adequate competition.

The club must make sure they move on from Kostic and don’t remain focused on the Serbian wing-back and potentially miss out on their other targets.

It’s time for this saga to reach its conclusion.
