West Ham United: Eintracht Frankfurt ready to talk for Djibril Sow transfer as £13million price tag set

Eintracht Frankfurt are now ready to talk about a transfer for West Ham United target Djibril Sow with the German club valuing him at £13million, according to Christian Falk.

The Mirror previously shared (1 May) that the Hammers were looking towards Sow as a replacement for the exit-bound Declan Rice, with Rob Newman watching the 26-year-old in action this season.

Writing in his CaughtOffside Substack (6 May), Falk shared that West Ham were chasing a transfer for the midfielder, who has been capped 36 times for the Swiss national team and won the Europa League with Frankfurt in 2022.

“Last summer, Nottingham Forest and Newcastle were close to midfielder Djibril Sow, but this time around it’s West Ham doing the chasing,” he wrote.

“The Swiss star has been watched several times by the east Londoners, most recently in Dortmund by chief scout Rob Newman himself.

“The Hammers had already inquired about Sow in the winter window, but at that time sports director Krösche put a stop to it.

“Eintracht are now ready to talk, and would let Sow leave for €15m.”

Options needed

With Rice widely expected to leave the London Stadium in the summer and join the likes of Arsenal or Chelsea, West Ham United will be in dire need of a replacement in the middle of the park.

In the loss against Manchester City, the Hammers’ glaring lack of options in the middle of the park was exposed when Rice and Tomas Soucek were both ruled out through illness.

David Moyes was forced to field Flynn Downes and Lucas Paqueta as a midfield two against the Premier League champions – a duo who highlighted the need for further recruitment this summer.

Sow is entering the final year of his contract at Germany and has gathered plenty of experience while playing for Frankfurt, so there would be far worse options to make a move for.

His style of play is similar to Rice, enjoying sitting deep in midfield but pushing forward for powerful runs and a strong passing game.

The links to Sow suggest West Ham are already planning for Rice’s exit this summer, and this is promising to see.
