West Ham United discuss new Jean-Clair Todibo transfer offer as Nice exit update emerges

West Ham United are internally discussing submitting an improved bid to sign Nice star Jean-Clair Todibo, according to Dharmesh Sheth.

The Sky Sports journalist reported via X on Tuesday (2 July) that the Hammers have already had an initial £25.4 million bid rejected by the Ligue 1 side for the French international during the summer transfer window.

Despite the initial setback, the Irons are still considering their options as they look to decide whether or not to return with a bigger offer to try and tempt Nice into parting ways with the 24-year-old.

Writing on X, Sheth said: “As per others, West Ham United have bid €30m for Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo. Bid rejected. West Ham discussing internally whether to go back in with improved offer.”

Will Jean-Clair Todibo exit Nice amid West Ham United summer transfer talk?

While Julen Lopetegui has clearly been eager to bolster his West Ham backline during the summer transfer window, few would have expected the Irons to move so quickly to try and secure Todibo’s signature.

The Frenchman is one of Europe’s brighter defensive talents and while that means he would be an excellent addition to Lopetegui’s backline, it does also mean this will be an incredibly expensive deal to pull off.

West Ham’s initial £25.4million bid feels a bit lower than what Nice will have been looking for and you would imagine it would take a little more than that for the Ligue 1 side to consider letting him depart ahead of the new season.

With speculation swirling around Nayef Aguerd and Kurt Zouma’s futures in East London and a move for Max Kilman seeming hard to pull off, the Irons may need to get their chequebook out to ensure they get their man.

Hopefully, the Hammers’ next offer will be enough to get this deal over the line if they decide to return for Todibo before the start of the Premier League campaign.
