West Ham United ‘definitely not’ returning for Harry Maguire deal

West Ham will “definitely not” return to their approach for Manchester United defender Harry Maguire as they wouldn’t be able to afford the deal, according to Claret & Hugh.

The reliable news source has claimed that the club are spent out after a busy summer transfer window and will categorically not return for Maguire.

This story comes following the defender’s comments while on international duty [Sky Sports, 11 October], in which he claimed neither he nor the clubs had ever agreed to the move, despite reports he had turned it down.

Moving on

The Hammers recruited Konstantinos Mavropanos after their pursuit of Maguire proved unsuccessful, with the Greek defender now stepping into the squad as competition for both Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd at the heart of David Moyes’ defensive unit.

They have moved on from Maguire, both with their recruitment and the way they are going as a club. While the Manchester United man would have been an ideal addition, he is no longer needed.

His comments referring to West Ham as a “massive club” show he could be open to the move in the future should it come about, and there had been suggestions that they could return if Zouma’s contract is allowed to expire, but those suggestions have been squashed.

Maguire will continue the season hoping to work his way back into the Manchester United first team, while the Hammers will continue their push for further success following last season’s Europa Conference League win.

In other West Ham news, an update has emerged on Kurt Zouma’s contract.
