West Ham United defender Thilo Kehrer emerges as AC Milan transfer target

West Ham defender Thilo Kehrer has emerged as a potential transfer target for AC Milan after the Italian club suffered injuries to key defenders, according to Milan News.

The Milan-based news outlet reported on 27 December that Kehrer is seen as a marketable option after a deal was proposed in the last few days.

Injuries to Fikayo Tomori, Pierre Kalulu and Malick Thiaw mean Milan will be searching for a new defender in the January transfer window, with Kehrer one of several names put forward.

Do it if the price is right

Kehrer has made just four Premier League appearances for David Moyes’ side so far this season, and if the reported £10million price tag [Claret & Hugh, 27 December] is reached, it would make sense for West Ham to do the deal, bring in the money, and reinvest it elsewhere.

Nayef Aguerd, Kurt Zouma and Konstantinos Mavropanos have proved to be the preferred central options in Moyes’ defence, while Vladimir Coufal has been the first-choice right-back, meaning Kehrer has struggled for minutes in any of his possible roles.

A £10million deal would see the Hammers break even on their transfer investment after they signed Kehrer from Paris Saint-Germain in August 2022, but with that price reportedly a minimum, they could be set to make a profit.

With the news that the German is interested in a departure from the London Stadium in January, Milan are the latest name to be linked, with a return to Germany [Sean Whetstone, 27 December] and a move to Serie A side Atalanta [Gianluca Di Marzio, 27 December] also on the cards.

In other West Ham news, Moyes has shared a double injury update.
