West Ham United defender set for January transfer window exit

Luizao is now expected to part ways with West Ham in the January transfer window, according to Andre Hernan.

The UOL journalist reported on 9 December that the Hammers have decided to allow the Brazilian, who was linked with an exit in the summer, to leave on loan with an option to buy.

The 22-year-old, who was even on Stoke City’s radar [Felipe Silva], has not been part of the first team this season and has been playing for the reserves.

West Ham will hope to get decent money from Luizao’s departure

Given Luizao’s lack of first-team appearances over the past two seasons at the club his permanent departure seemed almost inevitable.

The Brazilian defender, despite joining with a reputation from Sao Paulo as a bright young talent, has been relegated to playing for the reserves, indicating a lack of integration into the main squad.

This scenario often precedes a move, especially when a player of his age and experience is not given opportunities.

With the 22-year-old’s potential untapped and his market value possibly diminishing, the club would naturally look to secure at least a decent fee, either through a loan with an option to buy or a transfer, to capitalise on any remaining market interest, especially from clubs like Corinthians or even Stoke City.

It’s evident that he’s not rated by the hierarchy behind the scenes either so a permanent exit makes sense.

A move to Brazil appears to be most likely, as things stand, as he aims to return home.
