West Ham United decide on Armando Broja signing after £50m Chelsea update

West Ham United have decided against the pursuit of Chelsea striker Armando Broja, according to Claret and Hugh.

The publication reported on its website on Thursday (18 January) that the Hammers will not be making any bid or enquiries for the Stamford Bridge man.

The Telegraph reported on Wednesday (17 January) that Chelsea value Broja at over £50million and are willing to listen to bids this month.

Far too much

Asking for more than £50million for a player that has barely featured in recent seasons due to injury is foolish, and very likely to put off a club like West Ham.

The Hammers definitely need a striker, with David Moyes recently turning to youngster Callum Marshall amid the struggles of Danny Ings and Divin Mubama.

Regular starter Michail Antonio has been injured for quite some time, with winger Jarrod Bowen more often than not leading the line.

That is a scenario that the manager should look to change this month, but spending £50million on Broja is certainly not the right answer.

The East London club are much better off paying a smaller fee for a more experienced striker, one that could at least help out until the end of the season.

West Ham could then focus on a more permanent striking option in the summer transfer window, where they will have more time to bring in the right player.

At 22, Broja would be viewed as a player for the future, but he has hardly been in devastating form in North London, with just three goals from 36 Chelsea appearances.
