West Ham to decide on whether to get rid of Joseph Anang after Mohammed Kudus help

West Ham United will soon decide on the future of goalkeeper Joseph Anang, according to The Athletic’s Roshane Thomas.

The England youth international stopper has been third choice for the Hammers, but may be told to find a new club under the reign of Julen Lopetegui.

Anang, born in Ghana, has gathered experience on loan with Stevenage, St. Patrick’s Athletic and Derby County, and is held in high esteem by senior figures at the club having helped compatriot Mohammed Kudus settle in London.

Thomas states in the report [15 May] that Anang’s “long-term future will be decided in the coming weeks” as his deal is due to expire.

Should Joseph Anang leave West Ham this summer?

The time could now be right for Anang to move on having reached the age of 23, requiring regular and settled senior football to kick onto the next stage of his career.

However, West Ham could yet move to offer him an extension on similar terms to bulk out their goalkeeping options.

With Alphonse Areola having enjoyed a successful time at the London Stadium so far, 39-year-old Lukasz Fabianski will also remain at the club having seen his extension clause triggered until 2025.

Despite outgoing boss David Moyes’ reservations resulting in his dropping for Areola, the departure of the Scotsman could mean more first-team opportunities for the Polish veteran.

This means Anang is very likely to remain third-choice at best even if he did sign a fresh deal, and should for the sake of his career move on.

Joseph Anang may have to leave this summer for regular football

He’s too senior for Under-21 football and a conveyor belt of loan deals will fragment the course of his career.

Having only so far played as a youth international, Anang is still eligible for the Ghanaian national side – a chance which could present itself further down the line if he becomes first choice at a new employer. It’s a big summer for the 6’3” stopper.
