West Ham United could still seal double summer deal for Aguerd and Areola after latest twist
West Ham are still on course to secure double deals for Nayef Aguerd and Alphonse Areola, as per the Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor.
Claret and Hugh reported on 15 June that Newcastle United hijacked a move to sign Aguerd, but Taylor insists he has no “firm” information about the report. As it stands, the Rennes defender will undergo his medical at West Ham tomorrow, which has been backed by ExWHUEmployee on his Twitter account.
This would be a massive coup for the London club if they can the Rennes defender in the coming days. Aguerd especially would be a major addition to the squad, and the Hammers must get the deal done this week.

The Hammers also plan to trigger the release clause to sign Alphonse Areola permanently, with Newcastle chasing him as well. On this front, there are no dramatic twists as of now.
Taylor wrote on Twitter: “Been unable to firm up whether Newcastle have made a late move for Nayef Aguerd but my understanding is he was due to undergo West Ham medical tomorrow, as per ExWHUEmployee, Hammers still plan to trigger option to buy Alphonse Areola but definite interest from Newcastle.”
This is a massive transfer window for the Hammers, and they must not miss out on their first big chance to sign a top-class player.
This could set the tone for the rest of the transfer window, as Aguerd would be a marquee signing for the club.
Having scouted him for a long time, it would be a psychological blow to accept defeat in this manner.
In transfer windows, clubs often hijack deals, and it is common as often agents look for big wages. In this case, Rennes could also look to earn extra money by selling their player to the highest bidder.

However, it seems like West Ham are still more likely to land the player this week.
In the case of Areola, it’s complicated. The Hammers are aiming for continuity and he would be a perfect signing for the club.
But money speaks. Newcastle, who are also looking to sign a new goalkeeper, can not only trigger his clause but can offer a better wage package.
