West Ham United could sign Scott McTominay amid latest Lucas Paqueta exit development

West Ham could still sign Scott McTominay from Manchester United this summer, according to SixFootTwo.

Writing on the Hammers news website on Friday (11 August), Sean Whetstone reported that even though James Ward-Prowse is set to sign from Southampton, the Irons could still sign McTominay, 26, despite being reluctant to pay Man United’s £45million valuation of the Scotland midfielder.

It is understood that a deal for McTominay could be helped if Lucas Paqueta leaves for Manchester City. TeamTalk reported on Thursday (10 August) that the Brazilian is “desperate to ditch” the East London club and an £80million bid could be enough for him to be sold.

West Ham

Get it done regardless?

West Ham should still have some money in the bank to sign McTominay after the £105million sale of Declan Rice to Arsenal last month.

Signing the Scotland midfielder – who was called “unbelievable” by Sammy McIlroy last season [AllFootball] – shouldn’t depend on selling Paqueta because firstly, they’re not the same kind of player and secondly, the money should be there already.

We’d hate for Paqueta to leave because he was really hitting his stride in East London at the back end of last season and he played a major role in winning the Europa Conference League.

He’ll be brilliant in his second season, we’re sure. But if he wants to play up and push for an exit, we might not have any choice.

Hoepfully it doesn’t come to that but if we can have a midfield of Ward-Prowse, McTominay and Edson Alvarez behind an attack containing Paqueta, we’ll be in a good position to do well in the Premier League and the Europa League.
