West Ham United could sign another striker after Niclas Fullkrug as new transfer update emerges

Fabrizio Romano is not ruling out West Ham signing another striker before the August 30 deadline despite the acquisition of Niclas Fullkrug.

The Italian transfer specialist told GiveMeSport [15 August] that, while he is unaware of any new contacts at the London Stadium, the Hammers’ summer transfer business has impressed him so far.

Having signed Fullkrug from Borussia Dortmund for £27million [BBC Sport], Julen Lopetegui and his staff are content with their attacking options ahead of the new season, but another deal could emerge.

He said: “With West Ham, I am not ruling out anything, because this summer, they are on fire, but at the moment I’m not aware of fresh contacts, for example, on Jhon Duran and all these players.

“At the moment it’s still quiet there. They’re very happy with Niclas Fullkrug, they believe they have enough options up front. So let’s see, maybe if there is an opportunity.”

Julen Lopetegui to add another striker to his West Ham United squad?

The Hammers have been linked with an extraordinary number of players this summer, with Lopetegui revamping the squad ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

With Jarrod Bowen, Lucas Paqueta, Mohamed Kudus, Crysencio Summerville and Luis Guilherme all available in the final third, not to mention Danny Ings, Michail Antonio and Fullkrug at striker, the squad is filled to the rafters.

However, following the disappointment of finishing ninth in the Premier League last season, the new manager will be keen to get on the fans’ good side in the early stages of his tenure.

The appointment of Lopetegui raised several eyebrows but his transfer tactics have certainly caught the attention of many too, with Tim Steidten now receiving some well-deserved praise.

While the attacking end of the pitch is always the most exciting, the defence is still what needs to be addressed before the transfer window closes on 30 August.

Max Kilman and Jean-Clair Todibo are likely to be the preferred centre-back duo, with Nayef Aguerd a possible starter if he stays in London this summer, but Kurt Zouma and Konstantinos Mavropanos look surplus to requirement.

Given the transfer window so far, it would be unsurprising if one more name were to come through the London Stadium doors.
