West Ham United could sell Nayef Aguerd as Saudi club want to sign him – Dharmesh Sheth

West Ham United could be open to selling Nayef Aguerd in January after an unnamed Saudi club made their interest known, according to Dharmesh Sheth.

Writing on his personal Twitter account (2 January), the Sky Sports journalist reports that the club maye be willing to do business if they can find a replacement during the transfer window.

Aguerd was a target for Al-Ittihad in the summer but a move didn’t materialise as the Hammers failed to sign Harry Maguire from Manchester United.

“Unnamed Saudi club interested in West Ham United defender Nayef Aguerd,” he wrote.

“West Ham only likely to do business if replacement can be found.

“Al Ittihad tried to sign Aguerd in the summer. Aguerd now with Morocco squad for AFCON.”

Sensible

A new central defender is likely to be on the agenda at the London Stadium this month anyway, and with lots of speculation about David Moyes’ future it was a big question mark as to who would come in.

But with Moyes now looking likely to stay put and sign a new two-and-a-half-year deal, it means his transfer targets are likely to be the ones pursued now.

Aguerd has been a successful signing in the last 18 months but is certainly not indispensable to the team, and if the club are capable of getting a big chunk of cash for him and then replace him adequately then it would be good business.

The Harry Maguire deal now looks dead in the water but the club have shown an interest in players like Jonathan Tah, Edmond Tapsoba and Pierro Hincapie.

It’s unlikely to be very a busy window, but West Ham should look to be proactive rather than reactive if they want to keep their position high up the table.
