West Ham United: Conor Coventry exit update emerges as new frontrunner named in transfer race
Charlton Athletic are ahead in the hunt to sign West Ham United midfielder Conor Coventry this month despite interest from Sheffield Wednesday, according to The Real EFL.
The news outlet reported on 8 January that the fellow London outfit had been in talks with West Ham ever since before the window opened and it is believed that Coventry would favour a move to Charlton over any other suitors.
Talks are still ongoing with a host of clubs, but it’s believed his previous relationship with Addicks’ boss, Michael Appleton, is also a factor in his preference for a move to the Valley.

Coventry is very much on Charlton’s radar as they look to seal a permanent transfer for the 23-year-old.
Needs new experience
Charlton are looking to revamp their midfield with a couple of young loanees, and Coventry has emerged as a viable option for the Addicks this month.
Moyes will be hoping that Coventry can cement a spot in the starting XI of the League One club if he is to leave on loan during the January transfer window.

However, it’s unlikely we’ll ever see him again in a West Ham United shirt given the quality at Moyes’ disposal right now so it is best the Hammers get him a permanent move elsewhere and try and add a future sell-on clause should he excel at his next club.
The FA Cup offered Moyes the perfect opportunity to gage Coventry’s ability, drawing 1-1 with Bristol City in the Third Round on Sunday 7 January. However, the midfielder wasn’t used at all meaning he could be gearing up for an exit.
Sheffield Wednesday are also interested in the player but it seems as if Charlton are his favoured option as he wishes to stay in London and it certainly seems a very reasonable and sensible next step for Coventry as he looks to rediscover his best football again.
