West Ham United: Conor Coventry to Charlton Athletic update shared by Dharmesh Sheth
West Ham midfielder Conor Coventry is to seal a permanent move to Charlton Athletic in the next 24 hours, according to Dharmesh Sheth.
The Sky Sports reporter posted the update on his personal Twitter page on Tuesday (11 January) following previous reports that Coventry was undergoing a medical with Charlton.
Coventry, who was due to be out of contract at London Stadium in the summer, had also been linked with Sheffield Wednesday and a host of other Football League clubs.
Sheth tweeted: “Charlton have agreed permanent deal with West Ham United for midfielder Conor Coventry.
“Formal announcement expected in next 24 hours. Coventry had entered final 6 months of his contract.”
Shame
Coventry has always been highly regarded at London Stadium, but he simply has not had the opportunities to showcase his talents in the first team.
In fairness, the former Republic of Ireland Under-21s international is now aged 23 – he turns 24 in March – and he cannot afford to be sitting around not playing senior football.
The United academy product has plenty of experience of football below the Premier League, having enjoyed spells on loan with Lincoln City, Peterborough United, MK Dons and Rotherham United.

A new challenge now awaits, only this time there will be no talk of what the future may hold for him at West Ham United.
Coventry will have the chance to fly his wings elsewhere and there is every chance that he could enjoy a very successful career.
The decision to join Charlton was clearly well thought out, as he also supposedly had the chance to join at least one team in the Championship.
West Ham fans can offer the Irishman nothing but luck once this deal goes through as Coventry’s 14-year association with the club comes to an end.
In other West Ham news, the Irons are now reportedly considering a £30million swoop for a player in superb form.
