West Ham United close to finalising £12m deal to sign Flynn Downes – Dharmesh Sheth
West Ham are on the verge of completing a deal to sign Swansea City midfielder Flynn Downes, according to Sky Sports News reporter Dharmesh Sheth.
The journalist reported via his personal Twitter account on Wednesday afternoon (6 July) that the Irons are paying £12million for the 23-year-old, who’s a lifelong Hammer and was born in Brentwood.
Sheth adds that he’s been told that West Ham are “increasingly confident” of getting the multi-million signing completed.
Signing No 4?
West Ham’s slow start to the summer transfer window has started to pick up some pace.
Nayef Aguerd, Alphonse Areola and Patrick Kelly have already signed for the Irons since last season ended and it looks as though Downes is set to become David Moyes’ fourth addition of the transfer window.
He’s a good young player, too.
West Ham need to add some quality and some strength in depth to their midfield options.
Alex Kral’s loan hasn’t been turned into a permanent deal and Mark Noble has retired so both of those two have left the London Stadium.
Declan Rice’s future is always in the news and while we expect him to stay, one massive bid later in the summer could be all it takes for heads to be turned.

Tomas Soucek’s future has been discussed lately too but either way, Rice and Soucek are our only two proper central options and the addition of Downes does make a lot of sense.
The former England Under-20 international had a good season for Swansea last season as he made 39 appearances in all competitions for the Championship club.
He only joined the Swans last summer from Ipswich and when he made that move, the Welsh club’s manager Russell Martin said that the midfielder is “young, hungry, athletic [and] an excellent player”.
We’re very much looking forward to what he can do at West Ham.
Have we found our new Mr West Ham?
We hope so.
