West Ham United close in on Wes Foderingham transfer as Julen Lopetegui update emerges
West Ham United are close to agreeing a deal to sign Sheffield United goalkeeper Wes Foderingham, according to Roshane Thomas.
The Atheltic journalist reported on Wednesday (29 May) that Julen Lopetegui is eager to sign an experienced third-choice keeper at the London Stadium following the departure of Joseph Anang.
Foderingham is set to leave Bramall Lane at the end of June when his contract with the Blades expires and the 33-year-old could be Lopetegui’s first addition after he was appointed as David Moyes’ successor.
Flamengo defender Fabricio Bruno could beat the stopper as the former Real Madrid manager’s first signing, but the deal to bring him to East London from Flamengo has not yet been finalised.
Will West Ham United sign Wes Foderingham under Julen Lopetegui in the summer transfer window?
It was obvious as soon as Lopetegui was announced as Moyes’ successor that the former Wolves manager would be eager to put his own stamp on his squad and he appears to be wasting no time doing just that.
Although it doesn’t appear as though Foderingham will be arriving in East London to challenge Alphonse Areola and Lukasz Fabianski for the starting position, he will add an element of experience to the side that can’t be undervalued.
Anang was a relatively inexperienced third-choice option last season at only 23 years old. For whatever reason, Lopetegui clearly thinks that the Hammers could do with an older head in their ranks instead of a young prospect.
While the signing of Foderingham isn’t likely one to get supporters jumping out of their seats inside the London Stadium, it could well be just the start of West Ham’s upcoming transformation under the management of Lopetegui.
Hopefully, the keeper and Bruno will just be the start of a big summer under the Spaniard’s management.
