West Ham United: Charlie Hughes transfer wanted after Virgil Van Dijk admission
West Ham are firm admirers of Wigan Athletic defender Charlie Hughes, with Premier League scouts regularly in attendance at the DW Stadium, according to i News.
The news outlet reported on 25 March that, alongside the Hammers, Brentford and Ipswich have also been credited with an interest in the 20-year-old centre-back.
Hughes has claimed he models his game on legendary defenders such as Virgil van Dijk and Sergio Ramos, although he is not letting speculation about a transfer go to his head.
Could West Ham sign Charlie Hughes from Wigan Athletic
Hughes has been described as strong, good in the air and impressive in duels, while also looking assured in possession, so it is no wonder he has been tipped for a move to a higher level with Premier League clubs circling.
At just 20 years old, the Hammers appear to have found one for the future, who is playing regular football and impressing at a strong level. While he may not slot straight into the first team at the London Stadium, he certainly looks like a good acquisition.
Given Tim Steidten’s aim of bringing younger players to the club who can then develop into stars, to either strengthen the first team or be sold on for a large profit, as well as Moyes’ preference for homegrown talent, this could be ideal.

There is still plenty to aim for this season both domestically and in Europe, but it appears behind the scenes the cogs have started turning in terms of the transfer market, with the likes of Lazar Samardzic also targeted in recent times.
In other West Ham news, David Sullivan has been blasted for his “ridiculous” comments.
