West Ham United break deadlock in Divin Mubama talks as London Stadium exit update shared

West Ham United have broken the deadlock in contract talks with Divin Mubama on Wednesday night, according to Claret & Hugh.

The Hammers news website reported on 3 January that Mubama, 19, might have had to leave the London Stadium after demanding first-team wages in order to sign a new deal at the club.

It is understood that the Irons were unwilling to offer that kind of money to the striker, who has made nine senior appearances this season in all competitions.

However, it is understood that a major hurdle was cleared on Wednesday night as the Hammers continue to try and get Mubama signed up on fresh terms with his existing deal set to expire this summer.

Great news

West Ham cannot afford to let Mubama run down his contract.

As it stands, clubs from outside of England are free to enter talks with the London-born 19-year-old and offer him a pre-contract deal ahead of signing him for a compensation fee in the summer.

That would mean West Ham would lose a highly-rated, homegrown youngster for next to nothing when really, he’s worth millions to the club.

As well as being worth a lot of money due to his nationality, potential and his position, Mubama has a role to play in David Moyes’ first team due to how poor Danny Ings and Michail Antonio have done in East London lately.

Jarrod Bowen is the main man up front and Mohammed Kudus can also play there but with Kudus away at the Africa Cup of Nations with Ghana, Mubama is someone who could be called upon by Moyes to help the Irons get through January and early February.

Mubama’s only scored one first-team goal for West Ham and that came last season against AEK Larnaca in the Conference League.

But we’d all rather see him getting a shot instead of someone who’s had it at the club like Ings.

In other West Ham news, a medical is scheduled for this player to leave the London Stadium.
