West Ham United book Niclas Fullkrug flight for Saturday medical, details sorted for done deal

West Ham have tied up all the final details in their deal with Borussia Dortmund to sign Niclas Fullkrug, Florian Plettenberg reports.

The Sky Sports Germany journalist reported via X late on 2 August that the striker’s move was now a “done deal” and he will fly in for a medical with the Irons on Saturday 3 August.

Plettenberg had reported earlier on 2 August that the two sides had reached an agreement on a €30million [£25.6m] total value transfer but still had to iron out elements of bonus payments ahead of tests.

But the deal, led by Tim Steidten, is now said to be fully in place and the German international is heading in the very next day, with the flight already booked.

It will be the second Hammers medical due Saturday after an agreement was also reached to bring in free agent midfielder Guido Rodriguez [Fabrizio Romano, 2 August].

Tim Steidten secures West Ham striker deal at last

Just as the Irons can be criticised when they appear to be employing a scattergun transfer approach that is meeting dead ends in various directions they deserve praise when it suddenly all starts to come together.

Steidten has suddenly pulled a huge chunk of the transfer window together with a trio of vital deals set to be completed for Fullkrug, Rodriguez and Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville [Dharmesh Sheth, 2 August].

Questions can still be asked about how long it has taken when new manager Julen Lopetegui will have wanted as much time as possible with his squad and the preseason tour of the US is well under way.

But with Euro 2024 and the Copa America, as well as the Olympics, held this summer the Hammers are not the only club with delays to their business.

The timing may not be perfect but it is still better late than never, assuming there are no unforeseen late hitches with any of those three moves.

And if Aaron Wan-Bissaka follows them in the fanbase will be feeling a lot more confident about the start of the new campaign than they might have been just a matter of days ago.

In other West Ham news, a European heavyweight are convinced the Irons have been used to inflate the price of a player who doesn’t want to move to the London Stadium.
