West Ham United begin talks for ‘very special’ Andreas Schjelderup transfer as Nuno steps in
West Ham are believed to be interested in Benfica’s Andreas Schjelderup.
David Sullivan has already splashed the cash on Taty Castellanos and Pablo this January transfer window in deals that surpassed the £40million mark.
The Hammers have yet to benefit from new arrivals after a defeat last time out to Premier League relegation rivals Nottingham Forest, with Nuno Espirito Santo’s job now at serious risk.
The final third is clearly an area that the Irons would like to strengthen, as Schjelderup would add further firepower to Nuno‘s frontline.
With other teams also said to be interested in the left-winger, they have been told to “watch out for West Ham”.
Andreas Schjelderup is a wanted man
West Ham are scrapping for their lives to stay up with Nuno having won just twice in a total of 16 games since arriving in September.
Along with the likes of Castellanos and Pablo, Schjelderup would be another fairly unknown outlet that the Hammers boss could utilise against Premier League opposition.
- Schjelderup has made five league starts for Benfica
- He’s only played 485 minutes
- Schjelderup has recorded seven goals in 61 games for the Portuguese side
According to Sky Sports’ international reporter, Gianluca Di Marzio, the Hammers have entered negotiations with Benfica, with a January move to the London Stadium on the cards.
Nuno and the Irons have stepped in, with Roma and Parma also trying to get a deal over the line.
It’s not known if the move would be permanent or a loan, but the 21-year-old is in the market in hopes of more game time in the second half of the season.
Crysencio Summerville has failed to impress this campaign, and Nuno could offer Schjelderup valuable game time in the top flight, which he may be unable to turn down.

Schjelderup has earned great plaudits in the past
The Hammers are struggling in attack, even with the likes of Jarrod Bowen and Lucas Paqueta, but Schjelderup’s arrival could change everything.
Though he isn’t a natural goalscorer, he could prove to be a creative spark from out wide, with the potential to make chances for West Ham‘s new strikers.
At his former club Nordsjaelland, manager Flemming Pedersen had nothing but words of praise for the winger.
Pedersen said in 2022, as quoted by GOAL: “He [Schjelderup] is a very special player. His top level can go wild. He will be a top player in one of the five big European leagues.”
Schjelderup may very well be headed for a big European league with West Ham, but could he keep the Hammers up?
