West Ham United and Tammy Abraham transfer news revealed by Fabrizio Romano

Tammy Abraham is not imminently set for a transfer away from Roma amid links to West Ham and Saudi Arabia, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The transfer journalist told Caught Offside on 18 August that he has not received confirmation that the Hammers are looking to sign the 26-year-old England striker.

This comes after Gazzetta dello Sport reported on Saturday (17 August, page 13) that the Hammers were leading the chase for the former Chelsea striker valued at £21.6million.

“Tammy Abraham – Despite reports, I’m not aware of anything imminent now for Abraham. I don’t have confirmation on West Ham, for Saudi there are different movements now so it’s not something close or concrete,” Romano said.

“Abraham has been high on Milan’s list for weeks but they’ve many players and they decided to invest on different positions.”

West Ham do not appear to need Tammy Abraham right now

Given the club’s signing of Niclas Fullkrug, who brings a wealth of experience and goal-scoring prowess from the Bundesliga, and with Michail Antonio still in the squad, the urgency to pursue Abraham diminishes.

Fullkrug’s acquisition provides immediate depth and quality in the striker position, potentially fulfilling the role the Hammers might have envisioned for Abraham.

Moreover, Antonio, despite his age, remains a key figure in the team, offering a different dynamic with his physicality and experience in the Premier League.

Adding Abraham would not only complicate the squad dynamics but also might not guarantee him the starting role he might seek, considering his market value and past performances.

This could lead to dissatisfaction or a lack of playing time, which is counterproductive for team harmony.

Thus, focusing on integrating Fullkrug and utilising Antonio’s strengths makes strategic sense, especially with the financial implications of another high-profile signing like Abraham.
