West Ham United agree seven-figure deal with Manchester City for Divin Mubama – Fabrizio Romano
West Ham United have agreed a £1.2million compensation package with Manchester City for Divin Mubama, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The transfer specialist reported via X on Friday (16 August) that the striker has booked medical tests with the Premier League champions ahead of a summer move to the Etihad Stadium as a free agent.
Mubama will sign a long-term deal with Pep Guardiola’s side having turned down a contract offer from the Hammers earlier this summer before exiting the London Stadium at the end of the season.
Because the forward is only 19 years old, Julen Lopetegui’s side are entitled to a compensation package despite the fact he is officially a free agent.
Will Divin Mubama transfer to Manchester City after West Ham exit?
When Mubama turned down a contract offer at the London Stadium, few would have expected the teenager to end up at Manchester City this summer, with most pundits expecting him to drop into the EFL.
But ultimately, he appears to be leaving one Premier League club’s substitutes bench to sit on another side’s bench as it seems incredibly unlikely that he will play any first-team football under Pep Guardiola this season.
From a Hammers’ perspective, it won’t have mattered too much where the forward ended up as they were entitled to some form of compensation regardless. However, it is a shame to see him sacrifice the opportunity to play regularly.
Had Mubama dropped into the Championship, he could have quite easily led the line week in and week out for a team challenging for the top six and gained some vital experience.
Instead, he is going to tick a box at the Etihad Stadium and have to settle for minutes in the under-21 side. All in all, this feels like a disappointing move for everyone involved, bar City.
