West Ham United agree personal terms with Wes Foderingham as Irons exit close – Dharmesh Sheth
West Ham United have now agreed personal terms to sign Wes Foderingham from Sheffield United this summer, according to Dharmesh Sheth.
The Sky Sports journalist has reported (19 June) that the goalkeeper will move to the London Stadium on a free transfer.
His contract with the Blades came to an end and he now looks set to sign a two-year deal to join the Hammers this summer.
Foderingham could serve as a replacement for Nathan Trott who is set to depart in a deal to Copenhagen after a deal worth £1.5m was agreed.
Wes Foderingham set to join West Ham
It isn’t exactly the glamour signing that Hammers fans have been accustomed to after Tim Steidten brought in Luis Guilherme.
With that being said, Foderingham will serve a purpose as a second or third choice goalkeeper under Julen Lopetegui.
It is safe to say that the 33-year-old did not have a positive season last time around as Sheffield United finished rock bottom of the Premier League.
In his 30 appearances for the Blades, he conceded 79 goals [FotMob] which won’t exactly fill West Ham fans with confidence.
With the form of Alphonse Areola, he is going to keep his role as number one there is no doubt about that.
Premier League clubs always need at least three senior goalkeepers in case of injury and Foderingham is an experienced option for the Hammers.
He isn’t going to excite fans but is certainly going to play his role in the dressing room under Lopetegui next season which could be invaluable.
