West Ham United agree deal for £110m summer spend with Amadou Onana fee reached

West Ham United will take their summer spend to £110million if they’re successful in their bid to sign Lille midfielder Amadou Onana, according to The Times.

The newspaper reported via their website on Wednesday (3 August) that the Irons have agreed a £34million transfer fee to sign the 20-year-old international but are nowhere near wrapping up personal terms.

David Moyes is a keen admirer of Onana but it is understood that the Hammers face competition from an unnamed Premier League club to sign him up.

And if they do manage that, it’ll take the London club’s transfer spent well over £100million.

Exciting times

It’s been a slow and – at times – frustrating summer transfer window for West Ham fans but it’s hard to argue with the results of the window so far.

Alphonse Areola has added to the goalkeeping department, Nayef Aguerd has strengthened the defence, Flynn Downes has added much-needed heart and depth in the midfield and Gianluca Scamacca’s arrival has finally solved our striker conundrum.

However, it would be silly to slow up now as there are still areas of the squad that need sorting out.

Although Downes has already come in from Swansea, the exits of Mark Noble and Alex Kral at the end of last season left Moyes’ central midfield options very light.

Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek are there of course but the latter’s form dropped a lot last season and Rice’s future is always going to be a source of debate in East London.

Onana is a young, exciting midfielder who can play in a defensive or central role.

We’re really happy with this one so let’s hope the Irons can wrap up personal terms as soon as possible to strike the signing.
